SCUBA REFRESHERS PADI Re-Activate for Rusty divers

The PADI ReActivate or Scuba Tune-Up with GO DIVE BRISBANE

Has it been a while since you’ve been scuba diving? Do you feel like your scuba skills and knowledge are a bit rusty? The Refresher is just what you need. It reacquaints you with diving so that you're back to feeling comfortable in the underwater world in less than a day.

This is particularly useful in Queensland, where local legislation requires divers need to complete a diving refresher if they have been out of the water for some time - pertaining to their experience (logbook as proof).

Here with Go Dive, to accommodate the state legislation, to dive with us you do need to show proof of recent diving relevant to your experience level. If you fall outside these timelines, you will need to participate in a refresher program prior to booking on our regular dive days/trips.

You need to complete a refresher if you fall into the categories below:

  •    4 - 8 logged dives -------------- over 6 Months absent from Diving
  •    9 - 25 logged dives ------------ over 12 Months absent from Diving
  •    25 logged dives or more ---- over 24 Months absent from Diving

The Fun Part

Brush up on your scuba knowledge and skills. Improve your diving ability and get your scuba gear ready for your next scuba vacation or diving holiday.

What you Learn

You go over scuba knowledge you learned during your initial training with the online eLearning program designed for PADI or Non-PADI divers.

For PADI Divers, the online program is called the 'Re-Activate'. For other qualification agencies, it is termed the 'Scuba Tune-Up'. The vital information is covered in both, however as non-PADI divers may not be familiar with PADI RDP Dive tables, the information in the Scuba Tune Up program is broader to cover the use of tables, but not brand specific. You will cover:

  • Safe diving practices
  • Dive planning fundamentals
  • Problem management
  • Breathing air at depth
  • Recreational diving and dive tables: basic knowledge
  • Recreational diving and dive tables: dive planning

Following the completion of the online theory, you will meet your divemaster at the pool, to review the knowledge, and gear assembly & disassembly procedures. After this you will don you equipment where your first dive will be under the supervision of your divemaster, revisiting skills and competencies in the pool. After the dives are complete, you have the opportunity to request for additional skills to brush up on. We offer a special to those that do the refresher with us that they can book onto the boat with in a week of the pool session, free equipment hire, a potential saving of $100. This does not mean you have to be on the boat in that week just book your place on the boat for a time that best suits you.

The Scuba Gear You Need

This course provides you with

  • Online theory training program
  • Access to training pool for practical in-water session
  • Your Divemaster for the session
  • Option to add a double dive aboard DiveQuest with FREE equipment hire after completion of the Refresher

Should you need to hire equipment (including tanks!) for the session, we offer great hire pricing to encourage you back into the world of diving.

If you have your own equipment, please ensure it has been recently serviced to ensure its safety - if you have been absent from the water for a while, it is very likely that your equipment would be outside the recommended timeframe for manufacturer recommended servicing.

The equipment you require:

  • Mask & Snorkel (Snorkel required for divers to carry when diving in QLD)
  • Boots & Dive Fins (Closed Heel fins are acceptable if suitable for scuba diving)
  • BCD
  • Regulator with Alternate Air Source/Octopus
  • Dive Computer (DiveQuest is a computer-required boat – each diver must have their own)
  • Wetsuit (We recommend a minimum 3mm in Summer, 5mm in Winter)
  • Tank & Weights
  • 3 x Safety Items as listed below

If you require equipment hire, the above can be hired at a special rate to welcome you back to the dive world.

  • Tanks & Weights $12.50 (Normally $25)
  • Tanks & Weights, BCD, Regulator with Dive Computer $37.50 (Normally $75)
  • Top to toe hire (everything in bullet points above): $67.50 (Normally $135)
  • Other items available individually - advise us in your online booking by choosing your hire needs.

Please remember that in QLD we have the Code of Practice requirements of each diver carrying these safety items when diving in Open Water:

  • Visual Signalling Device (e.g. - Safety Sausage/SMB)
  • Audible Signalling Device (Whistle/Air Horn)
  • Cutting Tool (Knife/Shears/Line Cutter)

As there are required by the Code of practice, if you do not already own these - we encourage you to do so for your own competence and confidence. We have a range of Cutting Tools and SMB's you can peruse online or instore.

For a starter pack or travellers, we have a budget pack of three for $35 or you can hire a set of three including a high-end SMB for the day.

The Learning Materials You Need

Quickly and effectively review scuba diving fundamentals with PADI’s eLearning program which will reorientate yourself to safety protocols & skills prior to getting back into the water.

For example:

  • What are the five steps in a pre-dive safety check?
  • What is the maximum depth limit for all recreational diving?
  • What are the signs and symptoms of decompression sickness?
  • At 12meters/ 40 feet a diver runs out of air. Her buddy is more than 60 feet away, what should she do?

Correct answers will allow you to complete program quickly. For incorrect answers, you’ll read a brief explanation to help you understand the concept. To purchase this course, contact us at GO DIVE BRISBANE.
